MING HU

Ming Hu is a pianist, educator, and collaborative musician currently based in Abu Dhabi. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, where she also earned her master’s degree, and completed her undergraduate studies at Lawrence University.

As a teacher, Ming has worked with students of all ages and levels, from young beginners to advanced university musicians. She has taught group piano classes, individual lessons, and applied instruction for both music majors and non-music majors, with teaching experience spanning universities, community music schools, private studios, and elementary school settings. She is especially passionate about creating supportive and engaging learning environments that build strong technical foundations, musical understanding, and confidence.

Alongside her teaching, Ming is an active collaborative pianist. She has worked extensively with vocalists, instrumentalists, choirs, and ensembles in academic and community contexts, including long-term collaborations with the Eastman Community Music School, Finger Lakes Community College, and the University of Iowa. Her collaborative work has deeply shaped her musical approach, emphasizing listening, communication, and shared artistry.

Ming also maintains an active performance career as a soloist and chamber musician, with performances throughout the United States and internationally. She is a prizewinner in several international competitions, including Second Prize at the International Moscow Music Competition. Her doctoral research focused on the complete piano works of composer Su Lian Tan and included both a recording project and a written dissertation.

A bilingual musician in English and Mandarin, Ming is committed to working with diverse student populations and to fostering inclusive musical spaces where curiosity, collaboration, and artistic growth can thrive.
